Liz Costagliola

Health visitor

Hi, my name’s Liz Costagliola. I continue to work part time as a Health Visitor within the NHS. I started my nurse training in 1991 and it was during this time that I discovered Health Visiting. As soon as I completed my nurse training, I applied for and was accepted on the Health Visiting course. By 1995 I was a qualified Health Visitor.

I have completed a diploma module in paediatric eczema and have run a children’s eczema clinic. My interest in eczema developed because my middle child suffered from severe eczema and I wanted to know more about it. Luckily he has now grown out it, but I still enjoy helping parents to manage their children’s eczema.

My other particular interest is breast feeding and I have completed the UNICEF breast feeding course.
On a personal note I am married with 3 children, and therefore am well aware of the demands of being a working mum.

How many nappies does a newborn go thoough?

Asked by mamfajane.
Hi i just wondered how many nappies a new born baby will go through in a day/week? Also if a baby is say average weight when born how much weight does it put on. Was wondering cos have started collecting bits and bobs and nappies are on special offer in supermarket but not sure which to buy. Some say 4-11lb and some say 6-131b. If i get the 4-11 how many of those will it get through before it grows out and needs next size up? Thanks x

Baby hates being laid down

Asked by mewskichan.
Every time we lay LO down in his moses basket on his back he wakes up and cries and won't stop! We've tried the whole ignore him and let him settle but it just gets worse. What can we do? We're feeling very wary from lack of sleep because of this issue :(

Age gap

Asked by JessCooper.
Hi, Can you tell me what you think a suitable age gap is between babies? I have an 8 month old and I have just found out I`m pregnant again so No 1 will be 17 months old. Reactions haven`t all been positive, although my husband and I are over the moon and wanted 2 close together, feel like the negativity has taken the edge off of the excitment. Thank you.

breast and bottle?

Asked by upthegas.
Hi i was wondering what people's opinions are on this, i am expecting my first child and wish to breast feed but i dont feel comfortable "getting them out" i know its perfectly natural but i feel it isnt for me and i am hoping to combine breast with expressed milk, maybe only breast feeding at night time? i was wondering if anyone else is doing this and can it work-as most books i have looked at say to only exclusivly breastfeed or bottle and both would be confusing to baby? also i would really like my partner to be able to feed/bond with her from the word go opinions please.
